Mother

Artwork created for the exhibition 'Boobs Art' at the Seed Factory in Brussels.

I was asked to do a work on breasts and breast cancer to raise awareness and support. The breast symbolises the source and carries the potential of life (breastfeeding). But also death as we see in breast cancer. The breasts also symbolise the sun and the moon, and the conscious and the unconscious as opposites that nevertheless come together through their equality (as in the yin-yang sign). The mother, breasts and sea are symbolically connected. Carl Jung also suspects a connection between words for the sea and 'the great original image of the mother'.
